Five Sentara hospitals named among Newsweek’s Best-in-State Hospitals
The 2025 rankings use public quality and safety metrics and patient satisfaction scores to create the list
Five Sentara hospitals have earned recognition in 2025 rankings, highlighting the leading hospitals in every state.
The best-in-state hospital rankings for Virginia include Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital in Charlottesville (ranked no. 6), Sentara Leigh Hospital in Norfolk (ranked no. 9), Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk (ranked no. 11), Sentara Princess Anne Hospital in Virginia Beach (ranked no. 12) and Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center in Williamsburg (ranked no 13).
Both Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital and Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center also earned the Patient Experience Award, recognizing hospitals with outstanding results in their patient experience surveys.
According to Newsweek, the rankings are compiled using patient safety and quality metrics data from more than 700 of the nation’s hospitals, results from patient experience surveys, and results from medical professional surveys.
Clinical quality and patient safety are core values at Sentara. Some of our significant quality and patient achievements across all 12 hospitals in Virginia and North Carolina include:
- We have reduced the number of hospital-acquired infections (HAIs) by 64 percent over the last nine years.
- We have reduced the number of medication-related errors by improving barcode scanning rates for medications to over 95% compliance.
- We have improved early sepsis management by 209 percent over the last four years.
- We have improved our patient satisfaction rankings by 27 percent over the last three years.
