Remember, for life-threatening accidents or injuries such as chest pain, blurred vision or seizures, call 911 immediately - do NOT attempt to drive yourself to the hospital.
Medical emergencies can sometimes come on suddenly, making immediate care in the emergency department important. Here are some examples of these emergencies.
- Chest pain or difficulty breathing of any type
- Dizziness, weakness, change in vision, slurred speech or the inability to speak
- Drooping or numbness on one side of the body or face
- Head injuries, loss of consciousness, fainting, confusion or seizures
- Head, neck or spine injuries
- High or sustained fevers
- Injury due to a motor vehicle accident, burns or smoke inhalation, near drowning, broken bones or a deep or large wound
- Poisoning
- Vaginal bleeding during pregnancy
- Vomiting or coughing up blood
